Fenugreek – The Testosterone Booster and Sexual Performance Enhancer

Fenugreek is a herb from India, Pakistan and other parts of Asia. It is widely used in many testosterone boosting supplements because of its enhancement in the bedroom. Fenugreek extract was shown in a double-blind study of healthy males to significantly increase both libido and the ability to orgasm.

Common Uses of Fenugreek

Fenugreek is a herb that has been used IN Indian Traditional Medicine as a remedy to common problem such as stomach upsets and to aid in digestion. More importantly its use to curb Erectile Dysfunction increased overtime and with time, it started to be a common ingredient in most commercial testosterone supplements.

This plant was harvested annually and was added in different food stuffs as a spices connoting that it is highly rich in vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber and plant sugars.

Fenugreek and Testosterone

Fenugreek was traditionally used to curb ED perhaps because of its ability to increase testosterone. Recent scientific studies show that these claims are true.

In a study conducted by Steels and Co workers, 60 men aged from 25-62 years were given Fenugreek extract orally at 600 mg daily for 6 weeks. At the end of the study, their serum testosterone and prolactin were tested.

They found out that free serum testosterone levels and prolactin were maintained above the base line and the subjects reported improved muscle strength and better performance in bed since their sexual pleasure and orgasm were highly enhanced. See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21312304. that is to mean, Fenugreek extract is highly effective in maintaining testosterone and prolactin within the normal range.

Fenugreek is a Strong Antioxidant

Oxidation leads to break down of molecules. To figure this properly, take the case of a metal that is exposed to oxygen. The metal molecule breaks down forming a metal oxide which causes rusting. That is the same thing that happens inside the body.

Testosterone and other highly sensitive cells like sperms are prone to being broken down due to the oxidation oftentimes brought about by stress and other external factors. That is the reason why most aging men are reported to have low T and low sperm count.

Antioxidants such as Fenugreek inhibit the oxidation enzymes from attacking small cells and also facilitate rebuilding of broken cells. Fenugreek contains aromatase and reductase inhibitor properties.

In a recent study, 60 men aged from 24-53 years were given Fenugreek extract. Their testosterone levels were evaluated before the trial and their progress was observed after 2, 4 and 8 weeks.

After the 8 weeks, their testosterone levels, body fat muscle gain and strength were evaluated. The results showed 6% increase in testosterone levels after 2 weeks, 15% increase after 4 weeks and 36% increase after the eight weeks.

They lost 25 pounds on average at the end of the study and they all reported to have increased arm and chest muscle. See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21116018. that is to mean, Fenugreek is an antioxidant that increases testosterone levels by inhibiting the enzymes that oxidize testosterone in the body and also helps individuals to burn excess fats in order to lose weight.

 Fenugreek and Athletic Performance

Fenugreek is also a compound that have been used over the years by most athletes and body builders to improve their performance in the field and endurance in the gym. It causes a positive impact on body composition and muscle strength which significantly improves the recovery period.

In a recent study, 30 trained athletes were subjected to 500mg of Fenugreek extract daily for eight weeks. The athletes were programmed to take muscle exercise every four days in between the week. Their body composition was measured by hydrodensitometry and muscle strength was measured by isotonic bench and leg press.

At the end of the study, the subjects recorded increase in lean muscle mass and muscle strength. Fat composition in the body also reduced significantly. This makes Fenugreek a great compound that should be utilised by athletes and body builders who are looking forward to maximise their results.

Fenugreek and Enhanced Sexual Performance.

Most aging men lose control over their sexual life as a result of having low libido, reduced sex drive and inability to maintain strong erections during sex denying their partner the opportunity to have multiple orgasm which brings about sexual gratification. Using an aphrodisiac such as Fenugreek may help them curb such problems.

Fenugreek increases dopamine sensitivity which will bring back their sexual pleasures as a result of being able to being aroused naturally and holding strong erections for long to ensure optimal satisfaction to their spouses.

Fenugreek promotes smooth blood flow in the pelvic region by increasing the level of Nitric Oxide (NO) in the body. NO unblocks constricted blood vessels especially in the erogenous areas promoting effective blood supply in the penis tissues.

More importantly, Fenugreek leads to increased sperm count. A recent study investigated the effect of a chemical compound found in Fenugreek known as glycoside and its effect in the gonads. Male rats were used as the subjects where 35 mg Fenugreek extract were administered in their bodies daily for 4 weeks.

After the study, an operation was conducted on the rats bodies and the weight of their testes was evaluated. They recorded significant testicular weight increase as a result of increased sperms. See: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20878698. That is to mean Fenugreek has the ability to increase sperm counts to different species in the animalia Kingdom.

Fenugreek causes numerous physiological effects related to the reproductive system including increasing testosterone levels, altering body composition by increasing lean muscles while reducing fat composition. It was also found to increase testicular size and weight in rats. More importantly, it inhibits the aromatase and reductase enzymes from breaking down testosterone which would rather increase the level of bound testosterone by converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone.
